Dog days of summer and our local governments.

Its late July in Central Texas and summer has hit the stretch know as the Dog days.

One day is pretty much the same as the day before and will be the same tomorrow.

Local Government is not much different. In Georgetown the highlight is a new 500

Million-dollar water tower to serve the expanding growth out west and new home

Round Rock is working on new smart electrical meters as well as an update to the

water meters used by the city of Round Rock.  The other hot topic was a

New communications system for the police department and upgrading the hand

held units used by the officers on the street.

The “effective rate” refers to the rate determined for the governing body to raise the same total amount of tax dollars from the same local properties as was generated the previous year. However, many agree this will not do much to reduce the home owners tax bill as it is a rate based cap and does nothing to deal with the climbing tax districts soaring
